sad curry
I am bad at making foods that require meat products. Perhaps because I’ve only really cooked real meat things no more than 9 or 10 times, that I can remember. ( I don’t really count heating up pepperoni pizza or anything) I was so hungry and excited for making my chicken curry tonight, and then it turns out not so fantastic. Granted I wasn’t expecting much considering the whole curry stuff was in a jar. But i suppose I expected more than chicken breast that was yellow and just tasted like chicken breast. Oh so sad.
I’m mainly sad cause I used up my good meal of the day. Breakfast is usually pretty good, with the potential to be exellent if there’s time for it, which there rarely is. Lunch, durring the week is virtually non-existant with my schedule. And dinner gets built up for hours while I’m in class or at work being hungry. So by the time 5 o’clock rolls around I’m usually craving really bad.
It’s werid, lately I feel like I’ve been eating so much and yet constantly wanting more…. So now I’m going to have pizza.
Good news though, my legs are sore from running yesterday! And I’m going again tomorrow morning! So thats good
two outta three
(this is flipped)
So this quarter, since I’m only doing 13 credits I have a pretty nice schedule, with large blocks of time to get things done and none of those lame random short blocks, which are pretty much useless. So I have plenty of time to do stuff in the morning like go jogging or run errands or whatever, which is nice.
I’ve only had my 2 design classes but so far they seem like they’ll be fairly interesting. All 3 of my classes are being taught by guests, which will be …different, but probably in a good way. In one class I’ll be making a website about The Rwandan Genocide, which seems like a big jump from last quarter’s Oceans and Spas, but it’s all part of why I like my major, lots of variety. The other will be redesigning a corporate identity, dunno which one yet. It was just kinda weird cause our prof. came in wearing a suit and took it off to reveal a skateboarding tshirt.
And then we watched the first part of The Corporation, which I liked less than I thought I would, maybe because I didn’t really feel like it told me anything I didn’t already know, just the classic anti-corp stuff. Nike’s sweatshops, Monsanto’s DDT and Cow Hormones, etc. Maybe I’m jaded cause I use to sort of have that anti-corporate framing or mindset or whatever in highschool, but I’ve sort of gotten over it. I dunno.
The Great Return
And I’m back in Seattle. Oregon was pretty sweet. The coast is really awesome and camping is cheap ($12 a night and free hot showers!) It was a pretty laid back break
We had diso party fun time showers. We climbed giant rocks and roots and martianesque landscapes. We had a sneaky squirrel hop in our car. We were overwhelmed by farm animals. We got cabin fever in the yurt. We ate tasty ice cream with super fresh waffle cones. We climbed through giant towers, cells, body parts, and slides. We hiked and picniced and saw 9 waterfalls. We explored an abandoned structure by the water. We found a secret garden. We made awesome steak. We sat on little cliffs and ate dinosaurs, among other things.
So, overall a pretty awesome way to spend 9 days of not working or worrying about anything related to school or work. And it was really nice being able to enjoy all of that with Zach, who was awesome despite having to drive the whole way.
And I ate too much considering how lazy I’ve been all break. All my pants are fitting quite a bit snugger now. Time to start running again, which should be easier to get back into this quarter with my mornings being open for the most part and it being spring and all.

Fantastic end
So winter quarter is finally over! Yesterday was a really awesome way to end the quarter. “Final Crit” was just sitting around eating and talking about the work and next quarter and stuff. And afterwards a bunch of us (like…20) went down to The Ram for dinner, which was fun, despite being shuffled off to the kiddie table cause some of us aren’t 21. I actually didn’t mind all that much cause I kind of prefer smaller non-drunken groups, so that was cool. There should be more VCD gatherings. I don’t really hang out with the design bunch, but I’d like to more cause they’re all pretty nice. I feel like I finally actually know everyone now. (Apparently it took me like a whole year to remember everyone’s names.) And when I got home I had half a Reuben and got my poofy tshirt in the mail! yay!
Zach and I also finally sat down to plan our road trip, like 2 days before leaving and we decided to just go down the coast of Oregon instead of going all the way down to SF, which makes me kinda sad cause I really wanna see Arlene, but we realized it would be too much driving. I’m still really excited though, supposedly the Oregon coast is really pretty. It’ll be nice to not look at a screen for like a whole week.
And a random note, is it weird that one of my favorite things about the end of the quarter is peeling off the old stickers on my husky card and putting on the new ones? I really really like putting brand new stickers on it. So fresh.
Okay, time to pack. Hopfully I’ll return by next Saturday…
easy
I think this has been by far one of the easiest finals week ever, or at least in a really long time. It’s just weird cause it doesn’t really feel like the end cause it’s somewhat anti-climatic. It helps to not have to worry about finishing design stuff, and having an easy paper & final for my other class, and no final for the wildlife seminar. So yeah, life is good. I also got into that Music in American Cultures class for next quarter which I’m pretty excited for. I like the fact that it’s a 400 level music class and I’ve never taken any music classes here. I decided a while back it’s way more fun to just skip intro level classes and get right into the upper level ones that I have no experience in. Those are always way more interesting.
I’m really excited for spring break! Zach and I are taking a road trip to San Francisco, and I’ll get to see Arlene, who I haven’t seen since like… Christmas 03 or something. On the way down, we’re supposedly going to camp by the oregon dunes and the redwood forest, which should be cool, despite the fact that my parents think I’m going to die on the icey mountain roads.
Also, looking forward to By Design 07
And the mirror effect in photo booth is disturbingly addicting. It’s weird seeing yoursef morph like that in real time. My latest discovery, fingers and hands can be turned into creppy things:
not too crunchy
I actually planned out this week to make it less “crunchy” and it’s not going too bad. I haven’t really planned anything out for an entire chunk of time for quite a while. It’s suprisingly satisfying to cross things off lists. And go to sleep at night thinking “I was so awesome at crossing everything off my list today!” I feel like a dork, but I just want to be done so bad that I’ll be organized and slightly hermit like just to have a fairly open weekend and unstressful finals week.
Earlier tonight, Matt & I were talking about this time last year. It’ really strange to think it was a whole year ago that we were all stressing out over the portfolio that got us where we are now. And how in retrospect the stuff was pretty easy, and most of it sucked. It’s kinda nice to feel like I really have improved in just this past year.
Also, as a semi side note, is it wrong that I have a strange affinity for gradients lately? I think I’ve used gradients for 2 different things in the past two weeks, which is like 2 more than I’ve ever used. For a long time I felt like gradients were such a thing of the late 80’s early 90’s, and a big faux pas. But maybe gradients are “in” again? I see them all over the place lately. Maybe technology has just gotten good enough to make them look cool and not just cheezy late 80’s early 90’s. Of course not all gradients are equally good, in fact most of the stuff I see in the real world is like “iew…gradients…what a lame cover up.” But I’ve also seen them used really well recently, so I dunno. Am I the only one that wonders about The Return of Gradients?
briefs
The 3rd anual drag competition on Friday was huge, filling the largest lecture hall on campus, although I think last year was put together better.
My lovely computer (which still doesn’t have a name, the only runner up name being KinkyBoots, which doesn’t really make much sense) is being a little worrysome lately. The Adobe family is acting up and even just word is taking forever to load for some reason. This is particularly annoying b/c it’s so freakin new there’s no real reason why it should be acting up like this. Although, I think I made it mad a few nights ago.
update: Apparently it’s just a font thing that’s confusing the computer…
The 9th week crunch is coming up. The end of the quarter is close enough to be stressful but not over with.
But have I mentioned how much I love my new job? We went on a field trip to the Henry Gallery and got Japanese food for lunch on Friday. And then I came back to work and worked on drawing an iguana for a while. I’m going to be so awesome at drawing iguanas by the end of the year.
What I’m still not awesome at is drawing my symbol for “body wrap” or making a good stationary package, so off to do that now. fun.
(this is an early iguana, in a sombrero)
