freedom

I am finally done with fall quarter! (actually, I was done after tuesday) I think it went well but I’m glad to not have to worry about it any more. Only 3 more classes left! Of course when I got home I had to make a list of all the things I want to do over winter break. I think I may be slightly obsessive, even my free time gets semi-scheduled.

I went to a figure drawing meetup last night and got in 3 hours of good sketching in. I realized it’s been way too long since I last did any and my figures are still pretty awkward. It was a nice place and some cool people so I think I’ll be returning next week.

so free!

Next Quarter: Digital Kitchen

So after all the back and forth between whether or not to drop one of my extra classes next quarter, I just dropped both. They both seem like they’d be great fun, and I’m sad to see them go, but there are too many good things going on….

Instead, I added two non-credit classes that are going to be freakin AWESOME. Hopefully. I was checking out the class schedule at the School of Visual Concepts, looking for their letterpress class, when I noticed they had motion design classes, being taught at Digital Kitchen. The Intro to motion design is being taught by the creative director of DK, whose last name is MULDER! and The Intro to After Effects is taught by other staff at DK. AH! I’m so excited! You should have seen me freaking out and bouncing around earlier. It was crazy.

I’m also possibly rebranding the Honors Program and redesigning their website next quarter, if all goes as planned. I’m sure I’ll be ridiculously crazy busy, but it doesn’t matter. I’m totally excited to hang out at Digital Kitchen for 10 weeks and supplement my education. I mean, it would be fun to build sets and costumes and play with lego robots, but I think this will be better and more useful. And I mean, it can’t be bad to get to know people who work there, right? I’d also like to possibly incorporate some of this learning into my senior project sping quarter if possible.

Also, Riley and her Mom came by on the way to Alaska! We ate what was probably the least bad IHOP meal I’ve ever had. I think the key is to eat it outside of the U-district.

gold star for me

I just finished reading “Blink”, which was recomended to me by a prof a while back. It was pretty interesting, different than “The Tipping Point” but told in the same lots of small stories kind of way. That makes 3 books in one quarter that I’ve read (all the way through) on my own! I think this is partially due to the fact that it’s a pretty easy quarter for me, but yeah, this is quite an acomplishment for me, considering I don’t even remember the last time I actually got through a book for fun before these past few months. It makes me sort of wish I was part of some kind of reading reward system, like in elementary school where if you got like 500 points you could have lunch from McDonalds with the principal (which I did, although in retrospect it seems like a pretty crappy reward). Maybe I’ll just have another mini-orange. Mmm.

It also sort of makes me want to have people to talk to about things I’ve read, (now I understand the idea behind book clubs) If only so I’ll actually remember what it was about, but also cause I get ideas going and it would be nice to bounce them off someone. Not that they are revolutionary or amazing, sometimes I’d just like to talk about them with someone. I do sort of miss those old English classes where you did that stuff.

I realize my reading list is pretty mainstream, but I think books are definately one of the many things I’d rather have other people recomend to me. I think the same is sort of happening with music. I still find quite a bit on my own but it’s just as good to have other people, who care about it a lot more than i do, sift through it for me.

The next in line is “How to be a graphic designer without losing your soul” which basicly answers all those things everyone wants to know coming out of school and getting into the working world. Lots of good advice, and I’m just about half way through already. Hooray for the library!

Also, I think I miss walking to school. Living this far I bus back and forth everyday, and miss out on the 15-20 minutes of walking in the morning and evening I use to do to get myself to/from school. Now, I find myself huffing and puffing even after a quick trot to catch a bus, which is not a good sign.

tunagasm

mmm.. i just made myself a seared yellowfin tuna steak for dinner. It is super tasty and so easy! I can’t believe they always charge so much for this at restraunts. I could totally make my own tuna sushi now. I used this recipe and it turned out really well. It is pretty rare in the middle, so I’m slightly worried about my stomach getting upset later, but its so good… mmm. if only i had some wasabi.

also, we saw The Hidden Cameras last night, which was nice.
