Aerial
So on Saturday we started aerial classes, being taught by Lara Paxton of The Aerialistas (who is also a co-founder of Circus Contraption). It’s being held in the CC space, which is basically just the warehouse in back of Theo Chocolate. I love that it’s just this nook in the back of this brick building with a bunch of trapezes up amid a whole bunch of circus junk. It makes me feel all bohemian like. Saturday’s class was lots of fun, but my shoulders are super sore today. It’s def a good workout for the upper body, good conditioning for climbing too. I wonder how long it takes to train to be good aerialist. I love the idea of being a designer slash aerialist.
Dawg Dash
This morning we ran the 10k (6.2 mile) Dawg Dash. It was a perfect morning for it too. A nice sunny but still cool trip through campus. My main goal was just to finish and not worry about time since it’s my first 10k. And I the results reflect that:
overall place: 885 out of 895
division place: 198 out of 200
gender place: 460 out of 470
time: 1:19:38
pace: 12:51
So I guess I didn’t really do that well in comparison, being in the bottom 10 and all. But I still feel like I did a pretty good job considering I’ve been doing a really bad job of training. And the course had a lot of incline and I’ve only ever really run on flat ground. Bu I felt like I was a bit out of my league for the 10k, like most of the runners in this group were quite a bit more fit, whereas in the 5k group had much more my type of runners. In the 5k group there were hundreds of people who ran (or walked) over 13 minute miles. In the whole scheme of things I’m pretty okay with it. At least I can officially cross this off my New Years Resolutions which is all that matters to me.
The Half?
Right now I’m a little unsure about whether I really want to keep training for the Seattle Half Marathon at the end of November. The 5k and 10k were on my check list, but the half marathon was more of a bonus. I’m just not really sure I’d be anywhere near ready for it since I have been training so sporadically the past few months. Being in the bottom 10 for the 10k makes me wonder how incredibly out of my league I’ll feel surrounded by people who can run 13 miles. And there’s so many other things that are more fun than running! (like pilates, or dance, or climbing, or aerial!) And it’s getting colder and colder out! I don’t know..
